Join us as we celebrate the launch of this new participatory public art project!
FLEET has arrived in Edmonds Park! Come join us for a weekend of activities, programs, and performances as we celebrate the launch of FLEET: Edmonds with our first Open House. Learn about upcoming visiting artists to the studio and programs, make a print designed by Eliot White-Hill Kwulasultun with BAG on a Bike, or fold your own mobile paper FLEET to take home with you.
Come and talk with the FLEET working group, Burnaby Public Art Program, visiting artists Eliot White-Hill Kwulasultun and Simranpreet Anand, and local arts and culture group Alegria Soy to learn about what is coming up for FLEET, and how to get involved. Refreshments will be provided.
Launch: Saturday May 25, 2024, 12 - 4 PM
The launch will feature an opening performance by Coastal Wolf Pack, a territorial welcome by Chief Janice George, and remarks by Mayor Mike Hurley, Burnaby Public Art, and Other Sights. Fun activities will be happening throughout the day such as the chance to make a print with our mobile printing press, BAG on a Bike, or create your own “Fold-a-FLEET.” Visitors are welcome to check out the studio-in-progress as we open our doors. A closing performance by Burnaby-based composer and musician Mohamed Assani will take place at 3:30pm.
Open House: Sunday, May 26, 12–4pm
Join us for a casual afternoon open house. View the studio-in-progress, contribute insights and ideas, and find out more info about our Open Call for Artists and Community. Meet and learn more about our collaborators from Other Sights for Artists’ Projects and the FLEET team, upcoming visiting artists Eliot White-Hill and Simranpreet Anand, and get to know our community partner Alegria Soy who will be available throughout both days. All are welcome!
