Located next to Chain & Forge and adjacent to Debra Sparrow’s Blanketing the City murals ,the space will be available to artists, community members, and organizations to activate through programs, residency periods, and public engagements.

FLEET: Granville Island programs in 2024 have included:

Performance by Punit as part of the New Works Pop-Up Dances Festival: September 20-22, 2024

Punit is a first-generation Indo-Canadian dance artist based in Surrey, BC. Punit has performed in productions such as "Plunge" with the Falling Company and has showcased his talent with the street dance company Higher Ground. He has also been featured in "Sound in a Dark Room" and led a dance research project involving AI animation, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. His work delves into mental health in contemporary society, blending theatre, movement, and technology.

Artist Talk: Reflections and Refractions Along the Citified Shore with Kamala Todd: October 2, 2024

Walk and reflect together along the waterfront places so impacted by colonial industrialization, urbanization, and 'place making' on these Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh lands and waters. What assumptions can we read from the ways these lands and waters have been treated, shaped, decided for? What are the signs of repair, resurgence? Beginning with Debra Sparrow's Blanketing the City, this walk will encourage deep reflection on the built environment and what is beyond the surface. Join Kamala Todd, Métis-Cree Indigenous planner and filmmaker born into these lands, who is continuously learning and unlearning about how to live in relationship and reciprocity in the territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Skwxwú7mesh-speaking Peoples.

Visiting Artist Kay Slater: October 1-31, 2024

During Slater’s residency at FLEET: Granville Island, they will explore creative access and wayfinding within public and small making spaces. They plan to employ low-fi and AR technology to test wayfinding and spatial mapping on the island and within the trailer. Central to this exploration, they will design a prototype exhibition within the FLEET container, focusing on making the space accessible and creatively functional for future projects. Concurrently, Slater will engage in their radical silence project, practicing non-verbal communication and reflecting on the experience of navigating and existing public spaces without relying on spoken language.

Visiting Artist Carmen Papalia: November 1-15, 2024

During Carmen Papalia's visit to FLEET: Granville Island, he worked with Quintron on creation of a Weather Warlock. The Weather Warlock creates sound, drawing from weather and meteorological events; sensors detect changes in sunlight, wind, precipitation, and temperature, with dynamic output during sunrise, sunset, and meteorological events.

Visiting Artist Jordan Hill: January 6 - February 3, 2024

During his visit to FLEET, Jordan will be experimenting with an interactive new-media installation, interrogating the purpose of facade imagery used around urban development projects. Over the course of his residency he will develop sculptural structures equipped with monitors and vinyl that the public will be invited to interact with. Through the FLEET studio on Granville Island, he hopes to further understand and recontextualize our relationship with public spaces and moments that otherwise discourage our critical attention.
